I took this course because I am interested in photograpy, but have generally taken pictures for the sake of taking a picture and not really taken into consideratin the art and science of photograpy.
This blog is intended to to capture the photographs taken for course assignements. Please feel free to provide comment or suggestions on ways to take picture or improve on the picture.

Selection 3 of Required Digital Projects (group photo)
This is photo was taken in July with my Grandma Margret and my children Mary, Melissa and Angel. My Grandmother is 86 and is an amazing woman, She lives in Princeton New Jersey in what I call the Trump Towers of retirment homes. It is its own little city. Before this picture was taken she had not seen my children since 2007. She hardly recognized them, they all had baby faces when she last saw them. As I took this photo I realized the importance of capturing moments in time for me and for my children.
Selection 2 of required Digital Project ( Black and White)
On The Beach, San Diego, CA 2010 |
I took this photo in San Diego, I love the movement of water behind the bird, the texture of sand and the shadow that is cast. The sun was setting in front of me and the picture was originally in color, I fussed with it in the photo editor until I got it where I wanted it to be. I feel quieted and calmed looking at it.
Selection 1 of required Digital Photos (Sports)
Angel Ramirez #13 Sierra Vista Little League Baseball Allstar Team 2010 |
My son Angel played for Sierra Vista All Star Little League Team this past summer. He was so proud to have made the team. He worked so hard and even though they did not win any games, he played his heart out along with his team mates. He loves sports, his attitude is a coaches dream come true, he knows when he has not put a 100% toward the game and will always own his errors. I don't think i have been more proud of him that during the Allstar games. He said I tried hard and I had fun, next year will be better and we'll win. What more can you ask for as a parent? Taking pictures for this class has truly opened my eyes to the blessings in life, they are my children Mary, Melissa and Angel.
Low Light, Night time or Close Up Photo's Assignment
Close up of all the kids, I love their expressions and the color of their skin, which they did not get from me. Dad gave them the Olive skin. They all have the same eyes and nose, but each facial expression is distinctly their own. We had such a nice vacation this summer and it was restful. They helped find the inner child in me this summer, i just let go and had a good time.

Picture one is of my daughter Melissa in action on the Kayak during our vacation this summer. A few years ago, my kids thougth it would be cool if they could do that when the visit my Mom and Dad, so being the Grandparents they are, they went out and bought Kayaks, Picture two is of my daughter Mary, she got stuck on shore and threw her hands up to laugh. She decided it was too much work to push herself off, after my son told her he wouldn't help.. Kids!!!
Photograph taken with and unusual angle or photograph with patterns
Photo One Unusual Angle |
Photo Two with Patterns |
Photo two is of my oldest daughter Mary in the water, you can see the ripples in the water behind her and her hair is moving the same direction the water is, towards you. Almost as if the water is pushing her towards you.
Flash Photograph or Transforming an Object
Museum of Natural History, July 2010 |
I took this picture at the Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, standing the left of the frame, I was trying to capture the the shot as from right under the tiger, I took several picures, but I like the way that this one looks playful and scary at the same time from this angle, but looking head on the picture looks like you are going to get mauled.
Atmospheric Space Assignment
Central Park Zoo, July 2010 |
I took this picture at the Central Park Zoo in New York City, I was frustrated because I was trying to get a picture of the swan just swimming, then a small two year old standing behind me threw something at the water and all the swans got irritated, fortunately for me I was able to get all the beads of water infocus and the swans body looks so gracefull. I was going to use this for my black and white picutre but it looks so beautiful the way it is.
Depth of Field Photography Assignment ETCV 515
Picture 1 Dolphin Beach, Montclair VA July 2010 |
The first picture was was taken by the lake near my parents house in Virgina, It was a little windy so the water seems to be moving yet in focus as well as the greenage in the backround, I like this picture because a I felt a sense of calm while taking it, I remember hearing kids laughing in the backround, the day was perfect for being at the beach.
Picture 2, Dock on Dolphin Beach July 2010 |
The second picture was taken on the dock at the lake, I like how the light shows thein the backround but does not take away from the kids or the landscape in the backround.
